Yorkshire to Kansas City: Brit Boy Street Food Featured on KCTV5

KCTV5 wanted to know what England picking Kansas City meant to an actual Englishman running a food business here.

When England announced Kansas City as their 2026 World Cup base camp, KCTV5 went looking for a local reaction. They found a Yorkshireman making British pies in the Northland.

Why they came to us

There aren’t many British businesses in Kansas City. When a story breaks about the England national team moving into town for a summer, the list of people who can speak to both sides of it is short.

Chris grew up in Leeds. He came to the States in 2007 on a soccer scholarship, which means the football part isn’t a marketing angle — it’s how he got here in the first place.

The distance in the headline

“Yorkshire to Kansas City” is about 4,000 miles, and it’s a stranger journey than a news segment has room for.

Chris didn’t come here to open a food business. He came to play football, stayed, built a marketing company with Lizzie, lost it to Covid, took a corporate job, and lost that too — the full version is in the VoyageKC interview.

Brit Boy started in March 2025. Less than a year later he was on local television talking about the England squad. Football brought him to Kansas City and then, in a very roundabout way, brought Kansas City to him.

What it meant for a small business

A base camp isn’t just a training ground. It’s a press corps, a support staff, travelling supporters, and a lot of English people a long way from home for several weeks.

For a business built on the idea that British food should be available in the Midwest, the timing was hard to believe.

What happened next was stranger than the announcement — we ended up feeding the press room and, eventually, the players.

Yorkshire on the menu

The Yorkshire connection isn’t decorative. Our recipes come from Chris’s mum, a home economics teacher, and they’re the ones he grew up with:

  • Shepherd’s Pie — lamb-led, with the ratio worked out over a lot of attempts
  • Steak, Ale & Mushroom — beef braised in dark ale
  • Sausage rolls — sage, black pepper and nutmeg, in butter pastry

All of it available frozen for collection around Kansas City or overnight shipping nationwide.
